Getting to Bhutan is an exciting part of your journey. Here’s how you can reach this magical kingdom:

 

1.By Air

The easiest and most popular way to enter Bhutan is by flying.

  • Airport: Paro International Airport is Bhutan’s only international airport.
  • Airlines:
  • Drukair (Royal Bhutan Airlines)
  • Bhutan Airlines
  • Direct Flights Available From:
  • India: Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bagdogra
  • Nepal: Kathmandu
  • Bangladesh: Dhaka
  • Thailand: Bangkok
  • Singapore

 

The flight to Paro offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga.

 

2.By Land

Bhutan can also be accessed by land through its borders with India.

  • Entry Points:
  • Phuentsholing: The most commonly used border crossing, located about 170 km from Siliguri in West Bengal, India.
  • Samdrup Jongkhar: Eastern border, closer to Assam, India.
  • Gelephu: Southern border, closer to Assam, India.

Important Note: There are no land crossings between Bhutan and China.

3.Visa Requirements

  • For International Tourists:
  • A visa is required and must be arranged in advance through a Bhutanese tour operator or their international partners.Bhutan Visa Fee is US$ 40 per person.
  • You must pre-book a tour package, which includes the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of $100 per day per person plus Daily Land Cost Per Person Per Night  covering accommodation, meals, transportation, and a guide.
  • For Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian Nationals:
  • Visitors from these countries do not require a visa but need valid travel documents like a passport or voter ID.

 

4.Best Time to Visit

Bhutan is accessible year-round, but the best times are:

  • Spring (March-May): Blooming flowers and clear skies.
  • Autumn (September-November): Ideal for festivals and trekking.
